~Wear Red Day~ WEAR RED DAY 2006
WEAR RED DAY 2007
Paint The Town Red The Partnership for a Healthy Community, one of the Healthy Maine Partnerships and a project of Aroostook County Action Program, in conjunction with The Aroostook Medical Center would like to invite your business, community group or individuals to participate in “National Wear Red Day”. This event is held annually to encourage women to be proactive in taking care of their heart health. Friday February 2nd, 2007 has been designated National Wear Red Day for Women. On that day Maine businesses, hospitals, schools, and people from all walks of life, both men and women, will be wearing red to focus attention on the number one killer of women – cardiovascular disease. Did you know? § Every year since 1984, more women in the United States have died of cardiovascular disease than men. § In the United States, more than 500,000 females die annually from cardiovascular diseases § Less than 10% of American women know that heart disease is their leading cause of death § In New England, Maine women have the highest proportion of preventable risks for heart disease such as tobacco use, overweight, and poor diet. § A study reported in the March 21, 2001 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association found that as little as one hour of walking each week could cut a woman’s heart disease risk by 50%.
On February 2nd, 2007 we would love to paint central Aroostook County Red. To encourage participation, there will be incentives, prizes and free information. First, if you have a group participate at your location, take a photo of your Go Red participants, forward the photo to Carol Bell at cbell@acap-me.org or send to PO Box 1116 PI, ME 04769 and include a list of names. The photo will be submitted to the local paper and participants will be entered into drawings for great prizes. Also on Friday, February 2nd from 11AM – 2PM an event will be held at the Aroostook Centre Mall. There will be a rolling fashion show, health screenings, discounts, free information and a chance to win prizes. So come join us in this wonderful event. Drop in anytime between 11AM and 2PM, walk the mall, get some free screenings and enter to win great prizes. Go Red and Love Your Heart! Put a hand on your own heart…and make your own promise to be heart healthy. That’s the message of Go Red For Women, one that we hope will inspire women everywhere to love their hearts – by seeing their doctors for regular check-ups, knowing their numbers (cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose), eating healthy, exercising, maintaining a healthy weight and not smoking. If you have any question, contact Carol Bell at cbell@acap-e.org 768-3056 or Darcy Kinney at dlkinney@tamc.org 768-4160 |
